Per ProfootballTalk.com, wide receiver Lavornius (sic) Coles is no longer a Bengal. And I'm off the hook for spelling his ridiculous first name correctly.Due a huge roster bonus tomorrow (the first day of the league year), the Bengals decided to cut ties with Lewvarnoose (sic) Coles. After a surprisingly unproductive first year with the team in 2009, Lowvairineese (sic) simply wasn't worth his large contract for 2010. The move ideally puts Cincinnati in the market for one of the other free agent wide receivers on the market. Names include Terrell Owens, Kevin Walter, and Antonio Bryant - all guys that could easily have better years with the Bengals than Loewveeranus (sic) did.
Today also marked the deadline to put tenders on restricted free agents. All you need to know is that the Bengals did nothing to keep tight ends J.P. Foschi and Daniel Coats or defensive tackle Shaun Smith. My bet is that J.P. Foschi ends up back on the team playing for the league minimum. This is much cheaper than offering a restricted free agent tender, but the team runs the risk of losing Foschi to another team for no compensation. This really isn't much of risk, as he isn't very good.
Kudos for the Bengals for applying tenders to players who actually deserve them and not to those who don't. And kudos for getting rid of Leaveroomforanus (sic) Coles.
Also, tomorrow is the beginning of free agency, so hopefully you'll see a headline tomorrow like "Bengals sign tons of great players." Don't count on it though.
